'Scream Queens' season 2 plot and cast news: Will bring back characters from season 1

Fox has yet to renew "Scream Queens" for a second season. Scream Queens/Official Facebook Page

"Scream Queens" closed their first season by tying up loose ends and featuring a big reveal.

Hester (Lea Michele), the neck-braced weirdo, turned out to be the campus serial killer, and was apparently in cahoots with Gigi (Nasim Pedrad) and Boone (Nick Jonas).

A time jump showed Hester moving on with her life at the Kappa Kappa Tau sorority after getting away with the murder spree of the century. Chanel Oberlin (Emma Roberts), Chanel #5 or Libby Putney (Abigail Breslin) and Chanel #3 or Sadie Swenson (Billie Lourd) are locked up in a mental asylum after being framed by Hester.

One would think that getting committed into a mental asylum would be bad for the Chanels, but on the contrary, the three girls seemed to be living happily as they can eat what they want because there are "no boys to impress." Chanel #5 or Libby is on medication, which altered her personality, and resulted in her becoming the best of friends with Chanel.

Despite the show's interesting premise, the horror black comedy suffered in ratings, which caused rumors to circulate that it would not get a season 2 renewal from Fox.

However, if season 2 is going to happen, Ryan Murphy, the show's creator, is planning on having a few characters back--four or five, to be exact.

There are a lot of character combinations that could come back for the next season, given that a lot of them survived. But the show certainly wouldn't be the same without the fierce Chanel Oberlin.

But like one of Murphy's other shows, "American Horror Story," it is likely that "Scream Queens" season 2 will get a new location and a new story. What that story is remains unclear.

Michele, however, sat down for an interview with E! News and revealed a conversation with Murphy regarding the next season.

"I've talked to Ryan about what her role would be in the next season being that she was the killer this year and the fact is that she gets away with it," she said. "So Hester would be there. And how funny would it be if all these killings started happening again, and if they found out that she was The Red Devil, she could just be like, I'm really NOT doing it this year, I promise? We've talked about how she then would unfold into another season."

Fans will have to wait patiently to find out if "Scream Queens" will be back for a second season.
