Holly Holm, who had already aired her surprise when she was named as Ronda Rousey's next opponent, continues to be cautious against Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey.
Unlike the approach that Bethe Correia did last time out, Holm knows that she is in for a fight, perhaps the biggest one in her career. And with that in mind, she is not someone who is about to shy away and admit that fear is among the feelings she has inside as she gets set to face Rousey at UFC 193 this coming Nov. 14.
The bout was actually fast-tracked in a way since the original plan was to see her and Rousey get it on at UFC 195 set for January 2016.
Plans changed, however, when Robbie Lawler went down with injury and UFC President Dana White had no other recourse but to look for an alternative main event. It just so happened that Rousey agreed to it and the rest is history.
Holm admits that Rousey will be a tough nut to crack, adding that Rousey comes in with a full repertoire of skills which could make it hard for her to get through.
Despite the odds, Holm believes that anyone is beatable — Rousey included. So now, the main thing she has to do is figure out how to do that.
"Everybody's beatable. Is it going to be hard as heck? Absolutely. It's going to be the hardest fight of my career. I have to absolutely do everything right from the beginning to the end of the fight. Is it going to be easy? No, that is not what I'm saying. But I'm going in there to win and it's very possible," says Holm in an interview with Inside MMA.
At the rate that Rousey has been disposing of opponents at record time, the first thing that Holm may want to do is how to last beyond the first round. Thus far, only one female fighter has been able to do that — Miesha Tate.
Tate is the same fighter who was initially set to face Rousey. But seeing that it would be the third time she and Rousey would face off, the UFC decided on someone new in Holm.
Holm, said to be one of the best strikers the UFC has now, is a fresh face. She could pull off a surprise but for now, the former boxer seems to prefer to approach the match conservatively; unless all these is part of a mind game for her. Check out her interview with Inside MMA below.
