Dan Harmon — the series' co-creator — has confirmed a 2016 premiere date despite the statements made by Mr. Poopybutthole in the show's previous season finale.
According to the Parent Herald, it seems that the third season of the "Rick and Morty" show will be aired in December 2016, and it will have Hawaii as its potential setting. Harmon previously said that the series will make a sooner-than-expected return to Adult Swim, and a lot of fans were pleasantly surprised since Mr. Poopybutthole's statements in the credits scene of the second season's finale led them to believe that the launch date of the third season will be on March 2017.
Furthermore, Game N Guide reports that the new season will feature a more dramatic storyline. The reason behind it is that it will shift its focus more on the relationships of the lead characters, with a lot of rumors saying that Beth and Jerry's marriage will be put to the test in the third season of the show. While Rick's parents are able to handle everything smoothly at first, their relationship will ultimately end up in a divorce.
A possible reason behind the constant fighting between the two is Morty's alcoholic tendencies. Once Rick finds out about this particular reason, he will then wage a war against Morty, which will certainly be interesting to watch.
Additionally, some rumors are saying that the third season of "Rick and Morty" will feature the return of Rick's wife. It is suggested that the return of Mrs. Sanchez is for the sole purpose of comforting Rick during his challenging encounters in life. However, it is still unsure whether or not they will be reunited for good.
