'Pokémon GO' update: Upcoming game to feature only 151 original Pokémon

First look at "Pokemon GO" Niantic/The Pokemon Company

The field tests for the upcoming augmented reality title "Pokémon GO" has begun, and leaks have started cropping up about the game. Reportedly, the upcoming title will only feature the original 151 Pokémon in its capture roster.

According to TechnoBuffalo, hardcore and enterprising fans of the franchise have already started datamining the apps released by developer Niantic to Japanese field testers. One of the first details uncovered is that the database only includes the original 151 Pokémon in the franchise. Meanwhile, capturing a Pokémon will also deviate from the original franchise adaptation – instead of a wild Pokémon battle, players will only need to select a Pokéball and throw it. However, not every wild Pokémon can be captured right away – as with what happens in the franchise, successfully catching a Pokémon depends on the trainer's level, the Pokéball used, and how good the throw is.

In the leaked gameplay footages, it can be seen that a Pokémon has "CP" values on it. While it is unclear what this means, some fans have theorized that this may stand for "Capture Points," essentially a Pokémon level value. The higher the CP value is, the harder it is for a trainer to capture the Pokémon.

In terms of trainer level, it is also revealed that players can create and customize their own characters, and there are three teams available for selection. Players can join Blue, Yellow, or Red teams. Medals will serve as achievements, and each can be accomplished depending on the conditions. The medals will also get unlocked as the trainer level gets higher. The field test app uncovered that rankings get as low as Novice of level 5, and as high as a Professor for level 50.

Meanwhile, with the field test in Japan already underway, this further confirms speculations that "Pokémon GO" will roll out soon, possibly in the latter part of the year before the holiday starts.
