'Pokemon GO' promo codes news: Niantic made a mistake?

Promo codes have arrived to "Pokemon GO" but are still inactive. YouTube/The Official Pokémon YouTube Channel

In "Pokemon GO," players love it whenever Niantic releases new features and/or upgrades. Now, this is exactly what the studio is doing — unleashing the Promo Code feature, that is. Here is everything about it in a nutshell.

The promo codes have long been anticipated to arrive to "Pokemon GO." In fact, as reported by Express, dataminers have discovered these in the game's master code earlier this year. The feature was introduced to the game unannounced, with the studio opting to keep things under wraps.

The aforementioned feature is believed to be part of Niantic's huge update. It is also worth noting that, from time to time, the video game company dishes promotional codes via "partnerships and special events." These are basically used in order for players to acquire special items such as PokeBalls, Lucky Eggs and Lure Modules, among others.

To redeem a promo code in "Pokemon GO," players simply have to go to the Map View in the game and click the Main Menu button. They will then have to touch the Shop button and enter the promo code in the text field, which can be found at the bottom of the screen. Once successful, a notification will appear displaying the items added to the inventory.

SlashGear, on the other hand, reports that while the arrival of the promo codes is true, they are still inactive. For other players, entering any of these in-game is synonymous to nothing. That is because the update needed to enable the feature has yet to arrive.

Some "Pokemon GO" enthusiasts are suggesting that it is probably a mistake from Niantic's end and that it never was intended to be released this early. Either that, or there is nothing players can do unless the company states otherwise.

If and only if these promo codes are placed in "Pokemon GO" for a certain purpose, then it is possible the studio will make things official soon. There is also that possibility of these being released by third parties. For now, though, players will have to play the waiting game.
