Since the removal of support for Pokemon-tracking third-party applications on the location-based augmented reality game developed by Niantic, "Pokemon Go," many players have been looking for alternatives to the revered tracking applications like PokeVision. Although there is currently no software offering the same functionality, there are a few new ones available in the app store that can be beneficial for players who want to track Pokemon near their locations.
The first application that has been reported to have had high rate of success in tracking nearby Pokemon is a freeware called PokeAlert. Aside from the high success rate, it has a fairly simple overlay and has the option to filter out commonly found Pookemon such as Pidgey. The dowsides to the application, however, is that does not plot PokeStops and Gyms. Additionally, users claimed that the data read by the application often did not match with the sightings tab inside of the game.
Another impressive free application that has similar features with PokeAlert is GoRadar. It is even reported to execute its elements better than PokeAlert. In addition to the common features, GoRadar has a timer used to figure out when a Pokemon will de-spawn and the options to see where the PokeStops and Gyms are located. One major downside of GoRadar is that it seems to be much more accurate in the cities and the populous areas compared to rural areas.
The third application is considred as the PokeVision of Android-based devices called PokiiMap.The base version allows players to scan for new Pokemon around the nearby areas after every two minutes. Additionally, PokiiMap also informs users when a Pokemon will disappear.
Unlike PokiiMap, the fourth application called PokeSensor is available for both Android and iOS devices. The app is free to download and can scan Pokemon in a distance larger than that of PokiiMap. However, it does not include the feature which allows users to see the images of available Pokemon and notifications when Pokemon will disappear.
