PlayStation 4 news: Update 4.05 aims to improve system performance

Sony Interactive Entertainment has released update 4.05 for the PlayStation 4. It is now available for download on the PlayStation Network.

The latest patch is only 300 MB big, and it contains a one-liner note. It stated, "This system software update improves the quality of the system performance."

Now there have been some mixed results coming from users, based on the comments of the same report coming from PlayStation Lifestyle. One experienced that his PlayStation 4 does not show any display anymore, while several others were experiencing slowness on the system UI. There were also a few that noticed stuttering on streaming videos, like the ones coming from Amazon Video, Netflix, and even trailer videos from the PlayStation Store.

There are also device owners that experienced the good things after the update. Several mentioned that their device could now wake up from rest mode via the remote play, which has not been functioning for a while. One stated that he noticed a faster response from his machine, while another one mentioned an improved upload speed from his end. However, this information is still inconclusive since these were not reported directly to Sony.

The last major update happened a month ago when the company released Update 4.0 Shingen. The patch added HDR support for all PlayStation 4 consoles, as well as UI improvements, that includes the quick menu, share menu, folders and Library organization, offline mode for trophy viewing, and visual enhancements for the user profile.

Meanwhile, fans are looking forward next month for the release of the PlayStation 4 Pro, previously known as Neo, which is an improved version of the current console. The upcoming device contains an upgraded GPU and a higher CPU clock that is needed to properly produce 4K display output for selected games. It can also produce a 1080p resolution when using Remote Play, which was previously locked at 720p.

Last month, the PlayStation 4 Slim was released, which is a streamlined version of the original PlayStation 4.
