'Persona 5' release date pushed back to summer 2016

"Persona 5," the much-awaited role-playing video game being developed by Japanese game studio Atlus, will not be released this year as promised. Instead, the outing of the title was pushed all the way back to summer next year.

Up to now, there's no clarification on the game's delay but the usual reason behind such postponement turns out to be good rather than bad. If Atlus is looking to make the game look better, it wouldn't hurt waiting extra months for it to arrive, so long as it really turns out a worthy game.

But apart from the chase to perfection, media outlets are reporting that another possible reason "Persona 5" isn't showing up this year is that Atlus is buying time to prepare for the DLC, which the long-running series never offered.

Atlus has never produced additional downloadable content for the previous "Persona" games, which means that latest iteration of the RPG will be the first to have them, if the speculation is on point. However, this report is yet to be corroborated.

Nonetheless, media outlets believe that it's about time that Atlus added the DLC element to its beloved franchise. Publications imagine that the add-ons for the game will allow players to change the appearance or the garb of the protagonists' respective personas.

Atlus hasn't shied away from talking about the big changes and challenges in the making of "Persona 5." For starters, the group of high-schoolers at the center of the game are now the hunted instead of being the hunters.

The premise of the game also has a touch of a "picaresque romance," which game director Katsura Hashino said posed a challenge for the team with regard to merging it with the school setting of the game.

"Persona 5" will be out summer 2016. No specific date has been designated yet.
