Fans of the famous romantic comedy film "Bridget Jones's Diary" will be thrilled to know that a third movie based on the novel by Helen Fielding is on the works.

Even greater news is that Universal Pictures confirmed Patrick Dempsey as one of the cast members of the upcoming movie, which has a working title of "Bridget Jones's Baby," E! Online reported.

The rumors that a new Bridget movie is coming began last year, but finally that news has been confirmed and according to E!, filming will start in October with the United Kingdom as the location.

There are no details on the movie plot yet and what Dempsey's role will be remains undisclosed. Since Hugh Grant is out of the picture, speculations point to Dempsey being Mark Darcy's (Colin Firth) new rival.

Dempsey joining the "Bridget Jones's" cast will be his first big screen role since "Grey's Anatomy."

However, the 49-year-old actor is not a new face to the big screen especially of the romantic film genre, considering he'd already played in "Enchanted," "Sweet Home Alabama," and "Made of Honor," and even further back in "Happy Together" and "Can't Buy Me Love."

Meanwhile, the upcoming "Bridget Jones's Diary" installment will be directed by Sharon Maguire from the original movie.

The second installment, "Edge of Reason," was directed by Beeban Kidron and it wasn't received well unlike the first one.

Author Fielding stepped up to co-wrote the screenplay for the third movie and the story won't be based on the third novel "Mad About the Boy," in which Bridget has kids and Mark died.

Instead, the story will see Bridget pregnant, according to E!, and who the father is remains a mystery. Furthermore, the story will be based on Fielding's written columns.

There is no release date announced for "Bridget Jones's Baby" yet.
