'Outlander' season 3 spoilers, premiere date: plot will have some major changes, according to showrunner

More details about the plot of "Outlander" season 3 are starting to pour online.

In a recent interview with Radio Times, showrunner Ronald D. Moore teased about what fans should look forward to when the series resumes for its third season.

"I don't think I'm giving too much away," Moore said. "But the story of season 3 will start in Scotland. Then there's a sea voyage involved in the 18th century, an extended journey across the Atlantic, and then the story goes to Jamaica and the Caribbean and ending up in the New World."

But while fans could definitely find the change of scenery exciting, the people behind the scene will find it a challenge to pull together all the elements of the upcoming season.

"Normally by the third and fourth season of a show it's basically a machine – this is the police station, this is an apartment, this is the bridge of the Enterprise – you're familiar with using those sets. But with this it's like you're doing a whole new series every year," Moore added.

Meanwhile, the search for the actor who will portray the role of Lord John Grey in the third season of "Outlander" is still underway. But TVLine has a lot of interesting suggestions.

According to the report, former "Sons of Anarchy" lead star Charlie Hunnam could be a perfect fit to portray the role of the British army officer. The character first appeared as a teenage boy who was tricked by Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) to reveal information about the Red Coats.

Other names mentioned to be the possible actor to portray the role include "Harry Potter" alum Tom Felton, "Homeland" star Rupert Friend, and "Downton Abbey" alum Dan Stevens. However, Starz has yet to make the announcement about the character's casting.

The network also continues to be mum about the release date of "Outlander" season 3, but the series is expected to return sometime in 2017.
