OnePlus 5T features a worthy competition to big name phones, save for its 'decent' camera

The OnePlus 5T promises to be a massive improvement over its predecessor. OnePlus

The OnePlus 5T proves to be a worthy competition to the other brands' flagship phones in terms of design and features. For its price, it does have one trade-off, however: a camera that is described as merely "decent" among the slew of high-end camera phones on the market today.

Not that its camera is a pushover, though. The phone sports a dual-camera system that offers 16- and 20-megapixel resolution, respectively. As mentioned earlier, it is decent and still a massive improvement from the company's previous offering, the OnePlus 5.

Still, the camera is one of the features that put the phone a notch below Google or the iPhone X. However, for the price, it is a very reasonable trade-off.

In a review for The Verge, Vlad Savov explored the intricacies of the OnePlus 5T. He compared the features of the 5T to that of the OnePlus 5, which was made available only about five months ago. While only a short span of time separates the release dates of these phones, there was so much improvement in the 5T that he called the previous OnePlus offering "inadequate."

He justified the OnePlus 5T jumping onto the "thin bezel" craze. He said that while the design choice may be taken for granted now, thin bezels could be a standard in a year or so; those who cling to devices with bulky bezels might feel left out.

The organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display was also praised. The manufacturer, apparently, favored Samsung's OLEDs instead of LG's, as the latter is known to have caused problems in the Google Pixel 2. In addition, the 5T's OLEDs are different in that they do not exhibit over-saturation. The phone also features color-calibration options, which are a boon for the ones who are meticulous about adjusting their display preferences.

Meanwhile, a review by Business Insider noticed that the OnePlus 5T's 1080p resolution is a step behind current-generation Android devices, most of which have 1440p display. Granted, this wouldn't make much of a difference to the casual observer, but those who put a priority on display clarity may notice some minor loss of detail. Nevertheless, the review still said the display is beautiful, praising its "vibrant colors" and the balancing of its brightness and contrast.

The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 835 processor with an Adreno 540 graphics chip. It comes in 64 GB and 128 GB models, sporting 6 GB and 8 GB of random access memory (RAM) respectively.

All in all, the OnePlus 5T is touted as a beautiful and powerful device. It is said to be the best Android phone in its price range.
