Prior to "Once Upon a Time" season 5's fall finale, "Swan Song," speculations were rife that an important character would die. Nobody expected, and many hearts were broken, when it was revealed that the charming pirate Killian Jones aka Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) would be the one to say goodbye.
Fans now eagerly want to find out if Hook will return or if there are ways on how to bring him back.
There are even speculations on how the swashbuckling pirate will be brought back to life and finally be reunited with his one true love, Emma (Jennifer Morrison).
A compilation of theories was presented by Bustle and it mentioned that Hook will eventually get out of the doomed Underworld, which will be season 5B's setting.
According to the report, there could possibly be a soul swap that will happen, but it's also unlikely that Emma, being Emma, would be willing to sacrifice a life just so she can reclaim her happiness.
There's also the possibility that Hook will once again become the dark one, or that someone will owe the God of the Underworld, Hades, a favor just so Hook can get out.
The report also mentioned about heart sharing, which Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Charming (Josh Dallas) had done before, could also work for Emma and Hook. And then, there is always the true love's kiss, which is always a popular and powerful thing in a fairytale land.
These theories may be convincing, but the final say would be up to the showrunners Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis.
Horowitz and Kitsis, apparently, dropped the bomb about Hook's fate, revealing that he won't be coming back.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the showrunners were asked if other characters can be brought back to life knowing that the gang can bring Hook back.
Both the showrunners revealed a heartbreaking answer with Horowitz saying, "Who said they can bring back Hook?" And then Kitsis chimed in, "He may die there. To be honest, he's already dead."
There are just so many questions left unanswered. Fans will just have to wait for season 5's return to get the answers and know what Hook's fate will really be.
"Once Upon a Time" will return to ABC on Mar. 6, 2016 at 8 p.m. EST.
