"No Man's Sky" creator Sean Murray recently revealed that at one point in time, the highly anticipated space exploration game almost didn't push through. He also said that if it wasn't for the game, he wouldn't have been able meet Elon Musk and Steven Spielberg.
Hello Games, Murray's game studio, got flooded one time, and much of the work that has been put up with the game got lost with. He got really disappointed and has been thinking of putting the project to rest, as Murray shared some interesting stories during an interview with IGN on its Unfiltered show last April 29.
Murray said, "I think if we hadn't announced the game--I nearly backed out of it--I think if we had backed out of it, and then had been flooded, it's hard to know...I think we might have canned No Man's Sky,because we would have been feeling really unsure of it. When we were trying to back out of it, we were like, 'What have we been doing?"
The announcement that the creator was talking about was the 2013 Spike's VGX awards show, where Murray was not feeling enthusiastic about revealing the trailer for their game. This event was after showing the game's trailer to his close pals and received negative reaction. He was really feeling down during that time and was about to back out.
During the hour-long interview, he also mentioned some interesting celebrities he has met because of "No Man's Sky." During the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) last year, the game caught the interest of inventor and entrepreneur Elon Musk. They also showed the game to director Steven Spielberg. However, they weren't able to accommodate Kanye West.
"Kanye was at E3 that year and we got a message that he wanted to see the game and we weren't actually on the show floor at E3," he said. "So we were like, 'We're not on the show floor and we've got Elon Musk to meet and Steven Spielberg so we can't take that Kanye meeting," as Murray was laughing during the interview
For him, it was one of those weird days. "This game has put me in one weird situation after another," he said.
"No Man's Sky" will be released for PlayStation 4 and Windows PC on June 21 in North America, June 22 for Europe and June 24 in the U.K.
