Nintendo NX release date rumors: Game console in early stages of production

It is rumored that the Nintendo NX is entering the early stages of production, and it is proceeding right on schedule. The upcoming video game console has been given a March 2017 release date by the company.

Emily Rogers, a known insider concerning information about the Nintendo NX, mentioned her latest scoop about the soon-to-be-released gaming device. Aside from the early production stage and schedule, Toshiba, Megachips, and Macronix are all taking part in the production process, and Toshiba will be supplying the flash memory chip. The company also manufactured the NAND chip for the Nintendo 3Ds.

Rogers also mentioned that the hardware specifications she stated earlier would be used in the final product, and it will include a custom NVIDIA GPU chip, a 6-inch touchscreen with 720p resolution, SD card support, and USB 2.0 and 3.0 support. She also added that the portable device is around 14 to 15 mm thick and will have an analog stick on the right-hand side, below the face buttons. It will also not be region locked. Let's Play Video Games added that detachable controllers, that support basic motion control and vibration force feedback, will also arrive with the device.

The battery life remains unknown, but the game console will be able to support the Unreal Engine 4 and the Unity Engine. However, it also speculated to be less powerful than the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Meanwhile, DigiTimes reported that Foxconn Electronics has performed a trial run for the production of the Nintendo NX. It is estimated that the annual production rate of the console is placed at 9.5 to 10 million units. It is also said that the electronics production company could work with Misumi Electronics and Hosiden, Japan-based manufacturing companies, to produce the required number of units. Foxconn is also tasked to produce the PlayStation 4 Pro for Sony, together with Pegatron.

The Nintendo NX is scheduled to have a worldwide launch sometime in March 2017. "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" is also expected to be launched at around the same time.
