Nintendo has not confirmed any details about the new console known only as NX. However, a new report claims that the rumored device is making its way in mid-2016.

According to a report from Taiwan news outlet Digitimes, Nintendo plans to ship about 12 million units of Nintendo NX by the end of 2016.

Initially, the company targeted 20 million NX units before 2016 ends, but suppliers for the components reportedly stated that they can only distribute12 million units.

The report also added that Foxconn Electronics, the same company that assembles iPhones for Apple, was chosen to put together the final product. However, the company has not provided a comment on this news.

Much of what has been said about NX are based on rumors and speculations. An earlier rumor mentioned that the company is planning to have an NX based on Android operating system, which, of course, was cleared by Nintendo, Wall Street Journal reported.

Just last month, it was reported that the software development kit has already reached game developers. There were also popular games rumored to be carried over to the console when it hits the market. The most recent rumor about the development kits seems to be likely if Nintendo is pushing for a late 2016 release.

Nintendo has yet to provide more details about the console, apart from the one it announced back in March about working on a "brand-new concept" in what is codenamed NX. Nintendo also previously established that it has nothing more to add when it comes to details about NX until 2016 arrives.

When it comes to Nintendo's rivals, Microsoft is expected to distribute 13 million units for Xbox One 18 million units for PlayStation 4 in 2016, Digitimes gathered. If the report on the NX is true, Nintendo can see itself maintaining its presence in the market.
