'Minecraft Wii U Edition' release date news: Available by Dec. 17 via the Nintendo eShop

"Minecraft Wii U" Mojang

Gamers may have come across that curious listing of "Minecraft" over at the PEGI site last month which Nintendo didn't really confirm (nor deny). Apparently, it did hint at an eventual coming for the said game on the Wii U, the remaining platform on which the game is not available.

But starting Dec. 17, the Nintendo "Minecraft: Wii U Edition" will be available for purchase over at the Nintendo eShop and will retail for about $30. So those who are addicted to the game and eager to see how it fares on the Wii U have about a week to find out.

Although details are a bit limited for now, it has been confirmed that the game can be played on the Wii console GamePad controller. This means that "Minecraft" enthusiasts don't have to worry about needing to hook it up to a TV set to play it.

This means that folks don't have to worry about fighting over TV use. Gamers can carry on playing the game on the Wii U console while freeing up the TV for other household members to watch TV shows, movies, and so on.

Other than that feature, the game will also come with content packs upon purchase. Additional content packs are also available, around 16 of them, but will have to be purchased separately.

Future packs are also expected to come out with Nintendo and game developer Mojang in close coordination to develop unique theme packs that will likely include skins and textures that will likely be based on Nintendo's popular line of characters.

Aside from that, all other features of the game remain a bit broad. This includes guessing if the Wii U version would be making use of the full map size similar to what rival game consoles (PlayStation 4 and Xbox One) are using.

Other than those mentioned, other possible features that the game will have to offer will likely be known in the coming week when the game is made available for purchase via the Nintendo eShop.
