'Narcos' season 2 spoilers: Plot rumors and release date

Narcos Netflix

It's been almost three months since Netflix's original series "Narcos" aired its last episode for season 1 and fans are eager to know how the story will continue from the cliffhanger finale.

The story in the first season appeared to be fast-paced, which led to the speculation that season 2 will be the show's last. It won't be much of a surprise if it will be, because the series is based on true events and real people after all. At one point, the production will eventually run out of stories to tell.

It will also be easy to make speculations about the story, considering that it is based on history.

The first season of "Narcos" focused more on cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar's dominance in the illegal drug industry, Crossmap noted, but he wasn't the only person who ran the same nature of business, which only means he has rivals.

The news portal speculated that the Netflix series will introduce the storyline of Escobar's rival cartels as the next targets of federal agents.

In a report from Bustle, it was also speculated that season 2 will focus more on the hunt for Escobar. It won't also come as a surprise if season 2 will feature Escobar's death, and the news outlet noted that the events that follow could also be a part of season 2's storyline.

On the other hand, if the producers decide to stretch the story, Crossmap speculated that it could cover the events that transpired from when Escobar escaped prison until his demise. "Narcos" could have more story to tell, especially during the time when Escobar was hiding from authorities.

A release date for "Narcos" season 2 still needs to be confirmed, but if season 1's premiere date is to be followed, fans may expect the surprise hit to return sometime in August 2016.
