2017 marks the 20th anniversary of the 90s craze, Tamagotchi. So far, there have been a few special edition game offerings to remind the public how the virtual pet conquered the world by storm. However, the celebration of Tamagotchi's birth will be extended well into 2018, with the much anticipated release of "My Tamagotchi Forever" in iOS and Android devices.

As reported by Engadget, "My Tamagotchi Forever" is expected to fill the millennial smartphone users with 90s nostalgia. Same as with every other fad, the popularity of Tamagotchi failed to cross over into the new decade, given the onset of modern handheld games with improved graphics. Nevertheless, "My Tamagotchi Forever" promises to bring back the elements that the players fell in love with, while featuring much-needed visual enhancements to fit into this generation's standards.

To note, the original handheld graphics of Tamagotchi was very simple, that is why the upcoming iOS and Android gaming app will provide more color, plus exciting new content to make the pet and owner bonding more memorable. For one, all the events involving the now-colored virtual pets will occur in a place called Tamatown. Players can go around this virtual town and make friends with cute little creatures.

"My Tamagotchi Forever" features the same content as the 90s original game, like feeding the virtual pets, getting them clean, and putting them to sleep on time. These are just some of the responsibilities of the players to their pets, and in cases where the owner neglects his duty, he or she will be notified on the device. There are times when the pet longs for attention, and the app will immediately notify its owner as to what his or her pet wants.

For the additional features of "My Tamagotchi Forever," players can participate in mini games together with their virtual pets in order to collect in-game coins. These can be used to unlock special items such as food, decorations, and pet costumes. According to Digital Trends, players can also acquire coins by using real money in the online store.

"My Tamagotchi Forever" is only available in Canada, Touch Arcade reported. Tamagotchi fans in other parts of the world will have to wait until 2018 to experience the 90s phenomenon once more. Before the game drops, players can now register online, with chances of getting picked as the inspiration for a new virtual pet character.
