"Mortal Kombat X' fans were expecting a new DLC pack to arrive later in the year, but it seems that the wait wouldn't take that long. Fans may hear something soon after Ed Boon, co-creator and Creative Director of NetherRealm studio, posted something cryptic via his Twitter account.

The studio is currently busy with "Injustice 2," but they also have time to create additional content for another one of their games, "Mortal Kombat X."

Boon said in his post, "evEn with the recent announcement of injustice 2 .... we'Ve got some cool mortal kombat x news cOming! :)"

Upon closer inspection of the message, the letters E, V, and O are in upper case. Fans interpreted this as the Evolution Championship Series or EVO 2016 and something big is about to be announced with regards to the game. The event will kick off on July 15 and it is anticipated that an announcement of the upcoming DLC for "Mortal Kombat X" will be made, GameNGuide reported.

Game fans are also expecting big changes to arrive with the upcoming DLC and that there will also be several guest characters.

Boon said to Game Informer last month, "I always think there's a novelty to it and there's a certain amount of people who think that when they see a guest character that it took the slot of a DC character that they wanted to have."

"But you know, Scorpion in 'Injustice' was the most downloaded of all the characters. There was a coolness and a novelty factor to seeing the mixing of the things. Alien and Predator in 'Mortal Kombat X' were the most downloaded of those, so I would be surprised if we didn't do any of that [in Injustice 2]," he added.

The EVO 2016 will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada this coming July 15 to July 17 at the Las Vegas Convention Center and Mandalay Bay Events Center. While "Injustice 2" is set to be released in 2017 on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
