Being a long-running sitcom, "Modern Family" is no stranger to holiday episodes. This year, however, the comedy series opted to air reruns in place of new Halloween and Thanksgiving episodes. Fans of the show hoped that the same strategy won't be used for Christmas, and it looks like their wishes have been granted.

Disney ABC released the synopsis in a press release for this season's ninth episode, titled "White Christmas," which will air on Dec. 9.

Judging by the episode's synopsis, the Pritchett and Dunphy families will be put into a rather uncomfortable and unexpected position as they celebrate the holiday together.

Growing up in Colombia, Gloria (Sofia Vergara) never got to experience a white Christmas, so she decides to take matters into her own hands by renting a cabin up in the mountains. Her whole family joins her, including Andy (Adam DeVine), who is now romantically involved with Haley (Sarah Hyland).

Unfortunately, they run into a few problems that will surely put Gloria's perfect white Christmas in jeopardy. The weather won't cooperate (being too hot) and an unexpected guest appears.

Meanwhile, Mitch (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cam (Eric Stonestreet) are on a mission to put on a great caroling performance after failing at it the previous year, and Jay (Ed O'Neill) surprises Claire (Julie Bowen) with a big announcement.

Although the network has yet to release a trailer for the new episode, a number of stills have been posted online. The stills feature the entire family in winter clothing, some members cozily gathered around a fireplace, Phil (Ty Burrell) hugging Andy with all smiles and Gloria hanging Christmas stockings.

Tony Award winning actress Andrea Martin will guest star in the American mockumentary as the unexpected visitor.

"Modern Family" season 7 episode 9 titled "White Christmas" will air on Dec. 9 on ABC.
