Apple is reportedly set to introduce the new generation of MacBook Air, and according to claims, the upcoming device is said to have a thinner design.
According to MacRumors citing a Monday report from Taiwanese news site Economic Daily News, the Cupertino-based tech company is preparing to launch the thinner MacBook Air in the third quarter of 2016.
If this report is true, the launching should coincide with the 2016 World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC), which will be held around June.
The report also revealed that the MacBook Air has been revamped into a thinner device with two variants: a 13-inch and 15-inch laptop. It didn't mention if an 11-inch variant will also be launched.
A lot of people thought that the 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air will no longer be needed because of the arrival of the portable 12-inch MacBook.
The rumor about a 15-inch model for the new generation MacBook Air also led to speculations that the upcoming laptop will be more powerful compared to the MacBook, although not superior to the MacBook Pro.
With the rumored device and the availability of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, it won't be a surprise if the 11-inch Air will no longer be made available.
Other details of the report stated that the new MacBook Air will come with panel and cooling modules, new metal chassis, and battery modules.
The Taiwan news site didn't indicate other specs, but the slim Air design is said to run on an A10X processor. It will also reportedly offer Retina display, a Force Touch trackpad, and better graphics and storage options, according to N4BB.
Currently, Apple's thinnest laptop appear to be the 12-inch MacBook, but it remains to be seen if the Air lineup will adopt similar designs.
In the meantime, the 2016 MacBook Air is still in the rumor category and should be treated accordingly.
