"Jurassic World 2" news: Release date and plot speculations

Owen Grady and Claire Dearing might have escaped the island after the attack of the hybrid dinosaur in "Jurassic World 1," but something might recur when the second installment of the franchise premieres on June 22, 2018. Universal Pictures

It appears that people are not satisfied with the dino hype that "Jurassic World" just unleashed and director Colin Trevorrow is also not impressed with just a single hybrid, which is why it is only appropriate that the box office hit will have a sequel.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Universal Pictures just revealed that "Jurassic World" will have a sequel that's slated for release on June 22, 2018.

What's known about the sequel is that both stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard have signed on to reprise their roles as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing, respectively.

The film will also be produced by Steven Spielberg, and while Trevorrow won't return as the sequel's director, he will be in charge of the script together with Derek Connelly, reports indicated.

The next movie still needs an official title and a director, and as for the plot details, no official word has been given yet.

However, in an interview with Wired, Trevorrow talked about the possibilities for "Jurassic World 2."

The director mentioned that a sequel will not be about more dinosaurs and people in one island, because according to him that plot tends to "get old very fast." Trevorrow also hinted that the next movie won't be limited to theme parks.

In another interview with Slashfilm, Trevorrow revealed that they have set up some themes and ideas which include "coexistence of these animals on the planet with humans," the same way that people coexist with some animals today.

He also mentioned that the next sequel may have something to do with the "weaponization of dinosaurs."

Meanwhile, aside from Pratt and Howard, it is still unknown if other characters from the movie will come back to reprise their roles.

And then there's the question about the iconic T-Rex — will it come back for the sequel?

Only time will tell and updates on the production should soon be able to give the answers.
