'Iron Man 4' release date, cast rumors update: RDJ too old to play Tony Stark, might be replaced by a younger actor?

"Iron Man" fans are excited to see the fourth installment of the series. There are rumors, though, that Robert Downey Jr. may be too old to reprise his role as Tony Stark and is said to be replaced by a younger actor who will play Riri Williams, the one who supposedly succeeds Stark.

Fans may have a hard time to imagine an Iron Man suit being worn by another person besides RDJ, but he himself has tweeted earlier an image of Riri Williams from the comic book series, "Invincible Iron Man." Now, fans have been speculating for some time now that this might happen as well in the movie series. There are also rumors that claim that Marvel executives are not excited enough to do a fourth installment even if the last one was a big hit.

Iron Man's last film will be reportedly be"Spider-Man: Homecoming" as the said superhero will act as Spiderman's mentor. However, he will reportedly be killed in the story. This will then open the opportunity to introduce Riri Williams, a.k.a. Ironheart.

GameNGuide mentioned that Marvel is waiting for Ty Simpkins to grow up and replace Stark. Simpkins is the child actor in "Iron Man 3" that acted as RDH's sidekick, and by 2019, the kid will be old enough to play the role.

RDJ also previously said to USA Today: "In a way, it's Cap 3, but for me, it's like my little 'Iron Man 4' and then, it's back to the thing we all recognize. Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an Avengers thing comes through because that's how it is until it changes. If it changes."

There are currently no plans set for "Iron Man 4," which the actor has confirmed numerous times on several interviews, but there are also rumors saying that he is asking for a pay hike for the next movie. For now, fans can only wait and see what will happen next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
