It seems like Robert Downey Jr. will hold on to the Iron Man armor just a little longer, this after saying that he is still open to making "Iron Man 4" a reality.

In an interview with ABC News while promoting "Captain America: Civil War," the 51-year-old actor contradicted his past statements regarding his participation in another "Iron Man" installment. "I feel like I could do one more," he said.

Back in March, the actor told USA Today that his time as Iron Man is already up after making "Captain America: Civil War," which will debut in U.S. theaters on Friday, May 6.

"In a way it's Cap 3 but for me it's like my little Iron Man 4 and then it's back to the thing we all recognize," Downey explained. "Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an Avengers thing comes through because that's how it is until it changes. If it changes."

Downey first portrayed the role of the billionaire/playboy-turned-superhero Tony Stark/Iron Man in 2008 as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He reprised the iconic role in two "Iron Man" sequels, in 2010 and 2013. The actor also appeared as part of the cast or in cameo roles in other films in the Marvel movie franchise, including "The Incredible Hulk" in 2008, "The Avengers" in 2012, "Avengers: Age of Ultron" in 2015, this year's "Captain Marvel" installment, and the upcoming "Spider-Man: Homecoming," which will be released in 2017.

Downey worked with filmmaker Jon Favreau in the first and second "Iron Man" movies, but the director passed the job to Shane Black in "Iron Man 3." If Marvel will indeed make a fourth "Iron Man" movie, it could bring back Favreau and Downey together again.

Marvel is expected to announce if they plan to make a fourth "Iron Man" film soon.
