iPhone 7 rumors: Outrageously thin iPhone 7 will reportedly arrive in 2016

Apple iPhone 6 and 6 Plus Apple

It's just a day away before the big event from Apple, which will reportedly unveil the new so-called iPhone 6S.

Even though it still remains a big surprise as to what Apple has to offer on Sept. 9's event, it hasn't stopped the rumor mill from turning once again. Word has it that Apple's next device in 2016, an iPhone 7, will be outrageously thin.

The latest news about the speculated iPhone 7 came from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities who said that Apple is working on a very thin phone design.

In a note sent to investors on Sunday, which Apple Insider got a copy of, Kuo's sources said that the big tech company is making a new design that has a thickness between 6.0 and 6.5 millimeters.

If Apple does push through with a plan like this, the device would bear a thickness like that of iPad Air 2 and iPod Touch, as both devices are measured at 6.1 mm thick.

The thinnest phone from the company so far is iPhone 6, which has a thickness of 6.9 mm..

It's not surprising to hear news about a thin Apple device because the company is known for having interests in slim designs. But how far will the company go just to achieve a very thin design without compromising important features?

According to Kuo, if the rumored iPhone 7 will carry on the thin design, the tech company will most probably use the same Force Touch technology.

The analyst also believes that Apple will be crossing over to a glass-on-glass for the touch technology, but that is less likely to happen in the next few years as glass-on-glass solutions of today will interfere with the 6 mm design.

The iPhone 7 is expected to harbor a whole new chassis in 2016, but Kuo has mentioned nothing about it. In the meantime, Apple fans are gearing up for the release of the iPhone 6s, which reportedly has a 7.08 mm thickness.
