The sequel to "Injustice: Gods Among Us" will launch on May 16, with 38 characters that include two big villains on Earth.

NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is finally launching the sequel to "Injustice: Gods Among Us" after four years and it features the arrival of big bad Brainiac along with 24 other new characters.

A preview for "Injustice 2" shows Superman facing a very powerful Brainiac, along with other DC characters taking on the villain. It also shows Brainiac facing another villain in "Injustice 2" — Gorilla Grodd.

Gorilla Grodd is a telepathic genius primate who formed an anti-Justice League group known as the Secret Society. In the comics, Grodd and the other villains planned to take over Earth after ultimately defeating Superman and the Justice League.

On the official website for "Injustice 2," the characters available in the new game are listed with short descriptions of how they play into the story of the game. Although, not all characters are available at launch since NetherRealm plans to release more characters within a period of time after the game has officially become available to the public.

Aside from this, a new trailer for "Injustice 2" reveals game features including a new gear system for all characters and Multiverse mode battles. The video also shows how the mobile version can help players unlock new items for different characters.

The gear system feature is one of the most-awaited features in "Injustice 2." It allows gamers to be rewarded with loot drops after they battle. Loots can be used in the game to increase power during a battle when the health bar becomes low or to increase the stats of a character. NetherRealm is also coming up with more ways for gamers to acquire loot faster.

"Injustice 2" will be available on Tuesday, May 16 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
