'Horizon: Zero Dawn' news: PS4 exclusive game shows off its open world setting

Key visual for "Horizon: Zero Dawn" Guerilla Games official website

Sony has recently released a new teaser trailer for its PS4-exclusive game, "Horizon: Zero Dawn." Contrary to the initial cartoon-like images for the game, the said trailer showcases the work Guerilla Games has done in developing the title, and they aren't done yet.

As is discussed in the video the company released, Guerilla Games are known for their work with "Killzone," a first-person shooter title that is contrary to how the development of "Horizon: Zero Dawn" has been treated. "Killzone" is a linear series, while the challenge with "Horizon" is that it is an open world role-playing game. Guerilla managing director Hermen Hulst mentioned, "But I think all of us, we really welcome it as a wonderful opportunity to create something that's so fresh, so new - it's a wonderful challenge for us."

Art director Jan-Bart Van Beek explains a concept they dub as "eco-topes," pertaining to specific areas in the game's environment. The player is surrounded with vast terrains to travel through, which would include lush forests, snow-capped mountains, ancient ruins, and deserts. Such conditions could work to the player's advantage or could make things harder for him, wherein rainy conditions could significantly reduce visibility. This will be part of the gameplay that the player should understand.

The visual design is why the title will benefit a lot from PS4 Pro's upgraded qualities. According to a PlayStation blog post, the game takes advantage of the PS4 Pro's increased support for HDR and 4K resolution. This then allows the player to experience a life-like world and look at the game's environment in a realistic 360-degree perspective.

"Horizon: Zero Dawn's" story revolves around a young machine hunter named Aloy who lives in a post-apocalyptic world. In this world, humans are no longer the alpha species; instead, it is dominated by machines and an environment shrouded in mystery.

The game will be released exclusively for PS4 on Feb. 28, 2017.
