Viewers will soon see Carrie (Claire Danes) back in the intelligence community, which could mean that she is returning to the CIA.

It was "Homeland" executive producer Alex Gansa who revealed this when he spoke with Variety last month. "One thing I can tell you about next season is that we have to get Carrie back into the intelligence business," Gansa told the publication. "She's been out of it for two years. It's time for her to return. We have to construct some sort of narrative to allow that to happen."

In the previous season, which ended last month, the president of the United States offered Carrie the position of senior adviser. But just as she was ready to start anew and move forward with this opportunity, she received a call from Saul (Mandy Patinkin), who was being arrested at the time. Turning on the news, she found out the several incumbent officials from the Department of Defense, the State Department, and the CIA were arrested as they had been linked to an assassination attempt.

Carrie will be doing her best to save Saul in the next season, according to The Christian Post. It is going to be challenging, considering that if she does this, she will be going against the president. However, Saul has been her friend for many years and she cannot just simply abandon him.

According to a report on Refinery29, "Homeland" has also been renewed for an eighth season, with more seasons to come after that. As to when season 7 will premiere, it is likely to hit the small screens early next year, if it follows the schedule of the previous season. However, there is also a possibility that the show will return this fall, if it follows the scheduling pattern of the first five seasons.

There has yet to be an official announcement regarding the release date of "Homeland" season 7 on Showtime.
