Carrie Mathison's (Claire Danes) search for inner peace might have to be delayed when she returns to the U.S. in "Homeland" season 6.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly in early June, Danes revealed that her character will be back in the U.S. after trying to live a normal life in Berlin in season 5.

"She's stateside; she's living with her daughter," the actress stated. "This idea of atonement is still playing. She's accrued a lot of guilt over the years and she's still wrestling with that. She's on her meds! She's probably mentally capable."

But Lesli Linka Glatter, one of the directors of the critically acclaimed drama thriller, admitted in an interview with Huffington Post that it will be hard to predict what Carrie has to face in the upcoming installments of the series.

According to the director, only series creator Alex Gansa knows what will happen next to Carrie.

"I have a feeling Alex has Carrie's ultimate fate written on the back of his hand," the director stated. "But I don't."

Glatter also believes that the CIA agent could eventually find a way to live a normal life despite everything that she had been through.

"Maybe she'll end up running a coffeehouse. The interesting part will be whether she can ever find inner peace," she added.

While Carrie's fate is still kept under wraps, spoilers claim that her friend Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) might wake up from the coma that he was in during the previous season. Also, Ganza confirmed that the next installment of the series will center on the transition period between the outgoing U.S. president and the new leader of the nation after the latest presidential election. Other spoilers claim that the new POTUS will be a woman.

Showtime will air the premiere episode of "Homeland" season 6 sometime in early 2017.
