GTA 6 release date news: Grand Theft Auto fans may have to wait until 2018

Since the release of "Grand Theft Auto V" by Rockstar, fans have been desperately wondering if there will be a "Grand Theft Auto VI" in store.

Rockstar has earned about US $800 million from its "GTA 5" sales on the first day it was released. On its third day, the game passed the US $1 billion mark.

The stunning sales figures are proof of how popular the "GTA" game series is and how overwhelmingly popular a new installment to the game would also be.

It has been less than a year since the release of "GTA 5," but fans are starting to wonder when the release date for the new installment would be.

Judging on the top-grossing status of GTA 5, there is an increased probability for a GTA 6 coming sooner rather than later, as Rockstar may prioritize the game's development to cash in on the huge demand for another sequel.

Some hints can be picked up from an interview with Rockstar president Leslie Benzies.

"We've got about 45 years worth of ideas we want to do," Benzies said in an interview with Develop.

According to Benzies, there is not much known about a "GTA 6", but the team has some ideas.

It took a while before GTA 5 was made available to the market. The initial announcement was made in 2011, however, the game was not released until 2013.

Some have touted that this could mean fans would have to wait for the GTA 6 release date until way back in 2018.

Even though there has been a distinct lack of official news about the new game, several rumors have already been circulating; one of them is looking at the possibility of a female lead character for GTA 6.

Other reports indicate that the game will feature Hollywood actor Ryan Gosling.

But it must be remembered that Rockstar has not made any official announcement regarding GTA 6 or its release date, but that surely will not stop fans from wondering, and from new leaks and rumors being stirred over the coming months until more is confirmed.
