Google Nexus 2016 Sailfish and Marlin release date in October; 360 degree look leaked

The Google Nexus 2016 devices with the codenames Sailfish and Marlin will be released next month with new specifications, features and names.

The devices are expected to come by the name of Google Pixel and Pixel XL, suggesting that the company is going for a major name change for their smartphone line.

HTC will be in charge of the newly-named Google Nexus 2016 devices, and as said before, they will be identical in specs except for the size of the display.

That being said, both are expected to house a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor under the hood accompanied by 4GB RAM. Storage configurations come in 32GB and 128GB.

Both Google Nexus 2016 aka Pixel devices will sport a dual camera setup with a 12-megapixel shooter and 8MP snapper. Interestingly, there are reports that the larger of the two, which is Marlin, will come with a 13MP camera.

Both the smartphones are expected to offer a fingerprint scanner while the smaller model will come with a 2770mAh battery, which would mark another change between the Google units.

Display wise, Google Pixel will come with a 5-inch display while its big brother will don a slightly larger 5.5-inch touchscreen. Fans can get a good look at the former with a 360 degree-video of the device leaked just now.

The takeaway from the video in terms of the design includes a USB Type-C port and stereo speakers situated at the bottom of the phone. The 3.5mm headphone jack appears to have been relocated to the left edge of the device.

Android 7.0 Nougat is expected to be pre-installed although it was reportedly a few days back that a newer version of the software dubbed Android 7.1 with Daydream Virtual Reality support and new launcher will be integrated in the Google Nexus 2016 handsets instead.

The Sailfish and Marlin flagships from HTC and Google are set for release Oct. 4. A new leak suggests a Nexus branded tablet could be released as well.
