'Frozen' 2 release date not yet confirmed; Elsa's death is impossible

More than a year has passed since Disney announced the development of "Frozen 2" and fans are still hoping to hear more about the sequel to the blockbuster animation movie.

In June, singer-actress Idina Menzel joked about the possible death of her character Elsa in an interview with E! News during the AFI Life Achievement Awards night.

"We are at story writing and they're working on it and I think I'm in it," Menzel stated. "That's all I know—unless maybe Elsa falls off an ice cliff and she dies in the first five minutes."

But Movie Pilot was quick to clarify that Elsa's death may not be possible since there are a lot of reasons why Disney must keep her alive in the sequel.

In an earlier interview with the same publication, director Chris Buck and screenplay writer Jennifer Lee teased that fans will learn more about Elsa's character in the next installment of the movie.

"[In Frozen] she had such a dramatic journey, and at the end she's just starting to feel like she can open up and have some fun again. That's what was really good about the short [Frozen Fever] – we could have fun with Elsa. And that personality ... you will see in the next one," they stated.

There are also speculations claiming that Disney Films will introduce a love interest for Elsa in the movie sequel, but it does not mean that she must fall in love with a man.

"We will tackle other issues that, I think, are out there today that boys and girls, men and women, are dealing with," Buck and Lee said. "I think we're very aware of what is happening in society. When the kids watch [Disney movies], they watch them over and over again, and if we don't have a decent message in there, I think we've missed an opportunity."

Disney has yet to reveal the official release date of "Frozen 2," but the film is expected to debut in 2018.
