Frozen 2 release date, plot news: Will Disney include homosexuality theme? Will Elsa find the love of her life?

Elsa from Frozen Disney

Fans are eagerly awaiting more news about the follow-up to Disney's smash hit movie, Frozen, and various rumors are now speculating whether the plot of Frozen 2 will see Elsa finally finding the love of her life.

The rumor mill has been spinning non-stop since Frozen 2 was confirmed, with speculation taking place on the plot themes of the new movie, as well as what new characters may emerge, and even what twists may be included.

Among recent rumors, there are claims that Frozen 2 will show development in Anna and Kristoff's relationship, and that the movie will give more screen time to Olaf and Sven.

Some of the more outrageous rumors currently going around also claim that Disney will look to incorporate a homosexual theme into the movie. However, with the target audience being just young children, and also considering the movie's popularity across the globe in cultures where homosexuality is a highly divisive and debated topic, it would be a strange move by Disney to go in that direction. It would spark cries of inappropriateness and potentially alienate a huge chunk of their global audience, as well as open themselves up to accusations of using a kids'  movie to further political motivations.

Meanwhile, casting-wise Kristen Bell has been confirmed to make a comeback as Anna. The actress recently posted a photo of herself with a bag of ice on Twitter, delighting her fans by playing into the frozen theme.

But thoughts must be with the film's creators, Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, who are under intense scrutiny and pressure for the sequel. Such was the popularity of the original movie, that there is the real possibility that they will be unable to live up to the huge expectations for the follow-up movie.

The original Frozen movie remains the highest-grossing animated movie ever, so it will take some work for the sequel to top it when Frozen 2 is released on the big screens in 2018.
