Independent game creator Scott Cawthon made a startling announcement on his website when he revealed that the development of "Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location" has been cancelled.

On the landing page of Cawthon's website, the word "Cancelled" had been posted for a while. It also comes with a brief explanation, saying that the termination of the project was caused by the leaks that emerged online.

However, fans of the indie point-and-click survival horror video game refuse to believe that the spin-off of the "Five Nights at Freddy's" game series will be totally scrapped. According to speculations, Cawthon was merely generating more interest in the upcoming game by engaging the fans in a guessing game regarding its development.

Vine Report also spotted a discussion over Steam where forum posters speculate that the cryptic message refers to the opening of the upcoming game. According to the report, there was a gas leaking incident at the Circus Baby's Pizza World. This could be the "leak" that was being talked about in the post. It could also mean that the cancellation was meant for the opening of the pizza place.

Meanwhile, Nathan Grayson from Kotaku clarified the reports that he is involved in the making of the "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie.

According to Grayson, he began receiving emails from fans asking about the status of the movie and if they can audition for a role after he wrote about the film on the website. Fans of the game thought that he is one of the people behind the upcoming film adaptation of "Five Nights at Freddy's."

"It's not hard to imagine a scenario in which a young kid, perhaps regrettably, doesn't really understand what an independent press site is, how it functions, or why it's important that it maintains distance from publishers and, in this case, movie studios," Greyson said. "They just see an announcement and assume that, yeah, of course the people delivering news of the thing are also making the thing."
