'Five Nights at Freddy's' sequel rumor: New 'Five Nights at Freddy's' game in the works?

Is developer Scott Cawthon thinking of expanding the "Five Nights at Freddy's" franchise?

The official website for the developer has been updated, and the new image seemingly teases Cawthon's next project. The image shows a face that is a designed in the signature look for the past "Five Nights at Freddy's" games. In addition, there is also a tag that reportedly gives a hint on the title: "Sister Location."

Meanwhile, the next project may also be a spin-off of the "Five Nights at Freddy's" franchise, as it apparently gives the tag, "There was never just one."

According to Touch Arcade, the image looks a lot like Bonnie from the previous games, so it may be closely connected to the franchise, and even a direct sequel to "Five Nights at Freddy's 4: The Final Chapter." However, Cawthon has already gone on record, saying that the fourth installment is already the climax of the series, hence it being "The Final Chapter."

The current iteration closely tied to the franchise is "Five Nights at Freddy's World," a spin-off role-play title with characters from the franchise. It is unclear on how and when Cawthon plans to release this teased game, since "FNAF World" itself is far from perfect. When it was first launched, there are glitches and bugs, with Cawthon himself admitting that the version seems to be incomplete and rushed. The developer then proceeded to pull out "FNAF World" from Steam, and replaced it with a re-release.

Meanwhile, some of the fans are still divided on a "Five Nights at Freddy's 5." The cliffhanger that was "FNAF 4" left a mark on hardcore fans, with some of them saying that the game itself put up more questions about the franchise. With Cawthon teasing a new project, some are saying that this may be the continuation that fans have clamored for.
