'Final Fantasy XV' news: Game finally confirmed to launch in September; playable demo now available for PS4 and Xbox One

 Square Enix

"Final Fantasy XV" is now official after 10 long years since it was announced, and will be launched on Sept. 30. Square Enix, the game developer, held a special event dubbed "Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV" at Los Angeles's Shrine Auditorium this Wednesday. Square Enix also announced, to the delight of the fans, a playable demo that can now be downloaded for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One via their respective stores.

The recently concluded event featured the free Platinum demo that fans can play in the meantime until September arrives. The demo lets its players take on the role of Noctis during a segment of his growing up years. During this time period, the prince of the kingdom of Lucis gets to learn and master the ways of handling different weapons and magical skills. He also learns how to drive during these years. The young protagonist is accompanied by Carbuncle, the magical guide, as Polygon reported.

Additionally, fans who complete the demo will gain access to Carbuncle when the game gets released.

During the event, fans also got to see two "Final Fantasy XV" collector's editions. Fans can grab the Deluxe Edition for US$89.99, which will include a bonus outfit, weapon and a car recolor DLC skin for Noctis' vehicle. It will also include an exclusive two-disc steelbook that contains "Final Fantasy XV" and "Kingsglaive" Blu-ray disc.

For the ultra-diehard fan, an Ultimate Collector's Edition is also available for US$269.99. This includes the Deluxe Edition content plus another two-disc steelbook that contains the official Blu-ray disc music and the "Brotherhood" Blu-ray. A Play Arts Kai Noctis action figure complete with Ultimate Edition-exclusive weapons are also included. Square Enix is making only 30,000 sets of this package available.

For those pre-ordering any of the two collector's edition sets, Square Enix will be throwing in five additional "Final Fantasy XV" postcards.

GameSpot added that there is no official news yet if the game will be released on the PC, but there are indicators on Steam and Windows 10 that it will also be coming.

"Final Fantasy XV" is scheduled to have a worldwide release on Sept. 30 and will be available for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles.
