Production of the highly anticipated "Fear the Walking Dead" season 2 has now officially commenced. However, the cast and crew of "The Walking Dead" spinoff are out of their usual LA and Vancouver locations for a newer one fit for the season that takes the terror to the waters.
"We are thrilled to be starting production and even more thrilled to be shooting in Mexico," showrunner Dave Erickson said in a press release picked up by Comicbook.com. As it turns out, the 20 million gallon water tank in Baja made for the 1997 classic "Titanic" will be the setting for the new season.
"Baja Studios has been home to some of the greatest ocean-set films in recent years and provides all the creative resources we need to begin this new chapter in the Fear saga," he continued.
When viewers last saw Travis and the family, they sought refuge to Strand's gated estate but with the zombies managing to creep in, the citizens of LA held on for dear life by boarding the Strand's Abigail yacht and how this turns out will be the focus of "Fear the Walking Dead" season 2.
The new season will also ask the question of whether or not walkers are the only enemies of the protagonists in the series. With everyone wanting to save their lives or of their loved ones, each of them is prepared to do just about anything to be able to do that.
When "Fear the Walking Dead" season 1 ended, Erickson teased that Strand's yacht, which is good enough to provide shelter for a while on water, can be a source of a clash between the survivors who want their lives saved.
"So when you get to the question of what's worse, walker or human, we'll continue that theme. There will be quite a bit of action on the seas — and we'll split it between land and water. But it's going to be an interesting dynamic," Erickson teased to The Hollywood Reporter.
"Fear the Walking Dead" season 2 will have 15 episodes, which will air in spring. With Strand's important role in the new season, his essayer Colman Domingo was promoted to series regular.
