The first family of Empire Entertainment is back with a fierce new look for "Empire" season 3.
E! News revealed a brand new photo of the Lyon family for the third season of the critically acclaimed hip-hop musical drama. It shows Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) looking ferociously at the camera, while his ever fabulous ex-wife and mother of his children Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) looks very fashionable with her sparkly leggings. Their sons Andre (Trai Byers), Jamal (Jussie Smollett), and Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) are also seen in the background.
Fans of the series will finally find out the implications of Lucious' decision of marrying Anika (Grace Gealey) in order to stop her from testifying against him at the end of season 2. Cookie did not expect this, especially since she was starting to fall in love again with her ex-husband. Will Lucious and Cookie return to their bickering ways in season 3?
In an interview with TVLine, showrunner Ilene Chaiken explained how Cookie felt when she learned about the wedding.
"They love one another, the path was clear, and all of the sudden, yet another thing from Lucious' past and the mistakes he made got in the way. And I'm with Cookie on this one: This is it. She's done. She's finished being hurt by Lucious," Chaiken said.
Also, the upcoming season will finally answer the question about who fell on the high ledge at the end of the previous season. Fans saw Anika and Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) fighting after Rhonda learned that Anika was the one who pushed her off the stairs; the push caused the death of her unborn child.
The third season of "Empire" will also feature a string of new cast members, including Taye Diggs who will portray the role of a famous councilman named Angelo Dubois. French Montana will also appear in the upcoming season as Cookie's new love interest named Vaughn.
"Empire" season 3 premieres on FOX on Sept. 21.
