'Dark Souls 3' DLC release date: two expansion packs expected to feature at E3 2016

Dark Souls 3 From Software, Bandai Namco

"Dark Souls 3" fans expecting to know more about the two DLC packs set to arrive in the game are all looking forward to the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2016, which is happening next week. Additionally, game director Hidetaka Miyazaki is going back to his roots, creating mecha games, possibly an "Armored Core" sequel.

"Dark Souls 3's" first expansion pack is expected to arrive in the fall of this year, while the second one is being targeted for early next year. Exact details on these DLC packs are quite rare since it was announced last April via a translated interview with Miyazaki by Taiwanese site GNN Gamer.

Miyazaki also mentioned his immediate plans during the interview. Firstly, there are no plans for any "Dark Souls" "sequels, spin-offs or tie-ins, but he's not cutting off the possibility that they may arrive several years from now.

Second;y, he just wanted to try other things, new and old. This may include an "Armored Core" sequel, where the director was involved in already three games of the series, though he cannot say anymore about it. He also mentioned that game developer FromSoftware, is currently developing a new IP.

"Armored Core" is a third-person mecha-based video game series that lets its players take control of a fighting robot. Players are assigned different missions, like destroying enemy units or enemy structures, or protecting a particular object from getting destroyed by the opposing force.

"Dark Souls 3" is by far one of the most successful games in a series published by Bandai Namco. Player numbers grew rapidly and are still expanding on all platforms, but the PC gamers are far more than users of the two video game consoles combined, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, according to Super Data Research, a data analysis company.

The report said, "Bandai Namco's newest title earned an estimated $45 million in the first month of its release, outperforming console revenue by nearly $18 million. This is the first 'Dark Souls' title to perform better on PC than console, demonstrating that both Bandai Namco and From Software put the lessons learned from 'Dark Souls' I and II to good use."

E3 2016 is scheduled on June 14 to 16 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
