Cleveland Cavaliers trade rumors 2016: New Orleans Pelicans could be interested in Timofey Mozgov

Timofey Mozgov has long been rumored to be on the way out of Cleveland and the most recent team linked with him are the New Orleans Pelicans.

Mozgov has been hit hard for seemingly playing soft lately, something that went as far as drawing the ire of Cavs star forward LeBron James.

Compared to his performance last year, particularly in the NBA Finals, Mozgov has been a shade of his old self. Injuries have slowed down the Russian center but it seems that the Cavs' patience has run out.

As far as the Pelicans' interest is concerned, nothing went down. The Pelicans reportedly dangled Omer Asik in exchange for the seven-footer but the Cavs were not interested in him. With that said, the talks fizzled out with the Pelicans failing to get any headway with the Cavs.

But such doesn't mean that the Cavs have stopped looking for a trade partner for Mozgov. With the NBA Trade deadline still weeks away, anything can still happen.

The Cavs are looking for an athletic and quick player in exchange for Mozgov though no name has been mentioned thus far.

With the Cavs being handled by a new head coach in Tyronn Lue, it will be interesting who the Cavs will be setting their sights on. In fact, one has to wonder if they still need one considering they have a stellar roster that simply needs a wakeup call.

Just the same, Mozgov joins the list of players who may likely be changing teams on or before Feb. 18. With Tristan Thompson and Kevin Love eating up the minutes up front, the Cavs have hardly used Mozgov as extensively like they did last season.

Even with Lue inheriting the head coaching chores, Mozgov could be an odd man out especially if the Cavs are planning to opt for a run-and-gun type of a game anchored of course on James and the returning Kyrie Irving.
