'Chicago Med' season 2 spoilers, premiere date: Mekia Cox becomes show regular

Chicago Med season 2 premieres on Sept. 22 Facebook/NBC

Mekia Cox is now part of the cast of NBC's "Chicago Med." The "90210" alumni will play Robin Charles, the daughter of Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt).

Entertainment Weekly reported that the younger Charles, who is also a medical professional, an epidemiologist, was brought in for her services for a difficult case. However, the father-daughter relationship is on the rocks.

Executive producer Diane Frolov said, according to the report, that the upcoming season will dwell on the mysterious past of Dr. Charles.

Frolov said, "We'll get a bigger insight into his past few years, with his own personal demons that he's hinted about. We'll meet his youngest daughter, who is eight years old, and we'll meet his elder daughter, who's 25, from his first marriage."

Andrew Schneider, co-executive producer added, "She is actually going to start working at the hospital as an epidemiologist, and there's some strains in that relationship, which will reveal a lot about his past and who he is."

The Hollywood Reporter added that Cox will also be joined by Jeff Hephner and Ato Essandoh. Hephner will reprise his role as Jeff Clarke, a character he also played in "Chicago Fire," while Essandoh will play Dr. Rhodes' (Colin Donnell) new mentor.

IB Times mentioned that Cox's character will not be seen until episode 4, and she will have a love interest with the good-looking Dr, Rhodes, which will happen further down the season. TVGuide stated that Robin is smart but very rebellious.

Meanwhile, aside from "Chicago Med," Cox is also busy with ABC's "Secret and Lies," now on its second season. Her past projects include "Key & Peele," Undercovers" and "90210."

"Chicago Med" is the third series of the "Chicago" franchise by Dick Wolf. The other two are "Chicago Fire" and "Chicago P.D."

"Chicago Med" season 2 will premiere on Sept. 22, Thursday, at 9 p.m. EDT on NBC.
