Tesla's Model X would soon meet its match in the form of a German-made SUV — Audi.

Audi's new electric car carries the e-tron quattro concept, is described to be an SUV, and will be introduced during the International Motor Show 2015 happening next month in Frankfurt, Germany.

According to a Wednesday announcement from Audi, the SUV will offer a range of over 310 miles and will go into production by 2018, making it the German brand's first ever electric car under the large-series category.

The design follows the "Aerosthetics" concept from Audi, which combines technical measures to reduce drag while incorporating a creative design to the vehicle.

The SUV will most likely be dubbed as Q6, according to AutoNews. According to the statement from Audi, the SUV will be a four-seater vehicle with a length between Audi's Q5 and Q7.

The press release also stated that the upcoming car will feature a lithium-ion battery, an SUV body with "flat, coupe-like cabin," and a roomy interior.

Audi's upcoming electric SUV is expected to run on three electric motors — one found between the car's front wheels and two on the rear. The trio motors will be powered by the aforementioned lithium-ion battery.

Tesla's Model X crossover will make its debut this fall and will be an addition to the company's lineup, which includes the current Model S sedan.

Tesla leads the world of luxury electric-powered vehicles, but the Palo Alto-based automaker should soon face serious rivals, with more car companies pursuing electric vehicle designs.

However, a report from Business Insider stated that Stifel analyst James Albertine thinks the new SUV from Audi can't compete against Tesla.

Albertine even said that the e-tron quattro will be more of a competition against Audi's own Q5 or Q7 rather than Tesla's Model X.

Will Audi's e-tron quattro be indeed a match for Model X? People should find out next month during the upcoming International Motor Show 2015.
