Although flashbacks may provide explanations as to why things are happening in the current, every time these pop up, it seems that even more questions are raised in The CW's "Arrow." This season, the show is set to finally put the missing pieces of the puzzle together.
Entertainment Weekly (EW) was able to get some information from the show's executive producer Wendy Mericle, and it looks like the finale may answer a lot of questions that have been left hanging in the air for quite some time and will shed light on the events shown in the pilot.
"We've managed to hopefully stick the landing on it in a cool way that allows us to see both some of the moments right before we first met Oliver in the pilot, where he launched that flaming arrow and it lit up that signal fire, and also maybe a little bit after as well, some of the more emotional moments that we never got to see in the pilot," Mericle told EW.
According to Screen Rant, the signal light she was talking about was from the pilot's opening scenes, wherein Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) was seen running through the forest in order to light a signal fire on the shores of Lian Yu. This was to let "rescuers" know that he was alive and stuck on the island, waiting to be rescued. However, it had also been revealed that those five years he went missing were not all spent on the island of Lian Yu.
While Oliver's reasons for becoming a vigilante are now known, there are still a few pieces of the puzzle left. In the season 5 finale, which happens to be titled "Lian Yu," it could explain further as to how Oliver transformed from billionaire playboy to what he is now. The major flashback to be featured in the upcoming finale may conclude the five-year story that the show has revolved around since season 1, and could pave the way for the show to explore the other characters more.
"Arrow" season 5 returns on Wednesday, April 26, at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
