'Arrow' season 5 episode 8 spoilers: Supergirl, The Flash arrive in Starling City; Oliver lives new life

Tonight, the ongoing DC TV crossover continues as it lands in "Arrow's" Starling City.

Aside from the big spectacle that will bring Supergirl (guest star Melissa Benoist) and The Flash (guest star Grant Gustin) into Oliver's fold (Stephen Amell), the installment also celebrates the 100th-episode milestone of the superhero series. This makes for an interesting story arc for the billionaire playboy turned vigilante as he is about to get a more ideal reality in the upcoming narrative.

Titled "Invasion!" Oliver wakes up to a new and perhaps more preferred life wherein he did not board The Queen's Gambit that led to life-altering experiences. In this version of alternate reality, his family is complete with dad Robert (guest star Jamey Sheridan) and mom Moira (guest star Susanna Thompson) both alive and well.

This in itself is a presumably a better life for Oliver to live especially with Amell recently revealing that he thinks that his character's biggest regret is not being able to save his mom.

"For sure, that's tough. We actually viewed that episode in Walla Walla. We did a random viewing party, and we set it up — 'It'll be really fun! There's like 200 people there!' And the episode ends, and everyone stared at me like I had just tricked them into something," the actor revealed during a recent appearance at Heroes & Villains Fan Fest.

Interestingly, Oliver's love life is also getting a 180-degree shift as in this new life. He is happily engaged to be married; although, it is not to Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards). Instead, it will be to Laurel (guest star Katie Cassidy) who will be tying the knot with him.

While all this seems to be a better way to live compared to how he is currently spending his days now, Oliver will be starting to notice small imperfections that will presumably lead to him eventually wanting to go back to his current life.

Elsewhere in the episode, Kara and Barry provide additional helping hands to Felicity and the new recruits in taking on a new threat lurking in the city.

"Arrow" airs every Wednesday, 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
