Android Marshmallow update: Android M 6.0 to release for Honor 5X soon

While Google is said to be coming out soon with the new Android N platform, many flagships and mobile devices have yet to update to the current-gen Android Marshmallow. The latest to tease an upcoming update is the Honor 5X from Huawei.

According to a tweet from Honor USA, users of the Huawei Honor 5X can expect the Android Marshmallow "soon." The announcement did not say when the specific release date for the new Android version update is. However, it is expected that the new update will roll out in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, users can also expect the update to roll out in stages, as it has been a standard for an Android update to come out to devices on a staggered basis.

The news is a welcome one for the Honor 5X users, particularly in the US. When the Honor 5X was announced earlier this year at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show, it only came out pre-installed with Android Lollipop, whereas the other flagships that Huawei unveiled on the same event are already carrying Android M right out of their boxes. In addition, the Android Lollipop 5.1 that came with the Honor 5X is not the stock Android version from Google. Rather, Huawei has layered it with the company's own Emotion UI 3.1 on top.

The Honor 5X debuted as one of the flagship devices that Huawei showcased to penetrate the western market. It comes with a 5.5-inch display, a mid-range Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, and 2 GB of RAM. There is also another version with 3 GB of RAM onboard. Meanwhile, there is 16 GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD support.

Other specs for the Huawei Honor 5X include a 13-MP main camera at the back, as well as a 5-MP snapper on the front. The device comes with adequate usage time with 3,000 mAh battery.
