Android Marshmallow 6.0 update: Verizon's LG V10 to start receiving Android M today

When a new Android version rolls out, most locked devices are left out of an immediate update since mobile carriers need to build their own Android-based platform. Although the current Android Marshmallow was rolled out last year, it is only around this time that mobile carriers have started to release OTA notifications for the Android 6.0 update.

The latest to roll out its Android M version is Verizon, for the LG V10 flagship. Users of Verizon-locked LG V10 units will start to receive an OTA notification for an Android Marshmallow download and update anytime today.

However, according to GSM Arena, the roll-out format for Verizon is much like the routine releases for mobile carriers, and not all devices will get an OTA update on day one. Those who want to check out the new Android platform but have yet to receive a notification can manually check if the update is already available on their LG V10 through the Settings > About Phone > Software Update tab.

The new Android Marshmallow platform for the LG V10 updates the firmware to version VS99022a. Since Verizon built the new platform from Google's stock Marshmallow version, the new firmware features some of Android 6.0 improvements and tweaks like Doze Mode, Google Now on Tap and an overhauled permissions section. Meanwhile, it is expected that Verizon will also feature a number of carrier-specific apps and programs pre-installed in their Android Marshmallow version.

Meanwhile, Android Authority advises LG V10 users with Verizon to make sure that batteries are at least 50 percent charged and has sufficient storage available for the download since a switch to Android Marshmallow is considered a major update. The industry follower also stated that it is advisable to use WiFi connection rather than data when downloading or installing the update for a much more stable internet connectivity.
