'American Horror Story 5: Hotel' spoilers, cast update: Sarah Paulson debunks rumors

The fifth season of "American Horror Story" certainly has a lot to live up to. With the success of its fourth season, "Freak Show," many fans of the series are wondering whether "Hotel" will deliver, with the same spine-chilling storylines and unique characters seen in the previous season — especially now that the series' leading lady Jessica Lange isn't coming back to the popular FX show.

Many were delighted when shortly after Angela Bassett's return to the series was announced, a leaked "Hotel" cast list made the rounds which appeared to confirm the return of Lily Rabe, Finn Wittrock, Denis O'Hare, Frances Conroy, Michael Chiklis, Grace Gummer, and Christine Estabrooke. Moreover, the list also detailed the additions of Donald Sutherland, Michelle Pfeiffer, Steven Weber, Tammy Blanchard, and Alexander Skarsgard to the cast. The list also specified each actor's role in the series

However, actress Sarah Paulson was quick to debunk the leaked document, which describes her character as "a rock star who checks into the hotel, unaware of the terrifying events that await her."

"Here's the only thing I can give you…I am not playing Janis Joplin," said Paulson to The Wrap. "I would love that, that would be amazing, but no, I am not doing that."

There is no word yet if the additional cast members listed, particularly Pfeiffer and Skarsgard, are going to be in the show. According to Screencrush, creator Ryan Murphy had previously spoken of a desire to cast the actress, while the "True Blood" actor was shortlisted for season 1.

The list is said to have originated from an IMDB list created by acrazey57, but the list has not been confirmed by the actual production.

Aside from Paulson and Bassett, actors confirmed to be in "Hotel" are Evan Peters, Lady Gaga, Chloe Sevigny, Wes Bentley, Matt Bomer, and Cheyenne Jackson.

The season 5 production on "American Horror Story: Hotel" will start in California later this summer.
