The gadgets market is dominated by big names like Apple and Samsung, but there's one name that's out to join in the tough competition — Amazon.
According to an inside scoop from The Wall Street Journal, the online retail behemoth is planning to release a 6-inch tablet that's worth only $50 this Christmas.
The move is said to entice buyers to go for the product, a simple device that can be used for daily digital tasks such as streaming, web browsing, and online shopping.
But at such a low price, it is expected that the device will also come with poor quality specs. For instance, it was reported that the source familiar with Amazon's plan said the tablet would have a mono speaker instead of a stereo.
It is also assumed that the screen quality and battery life will be inferior to other expensive gadgets from the company.
Customers would surely not sacrifice quality just to get a lower price in order to have a device that can perform the tasks mentioned above.
Amazon experienced a big flop in its sales upon the release of the Fire phone and in order to bring back the support from audiences, they needed to cut down the price.
Market Watch reported that according to Eric Smith from Strategy Analytics, Amazon's move to lower the price of the tablet may be the only way the online retail giant can compete with bigger names in the smart gadgets industry.
Smith reportedly added that Amazon is already a known producer of affordable tablets and introducing a $50 device would mean that it could join the market targeted toward very young consumers who are not particular when it comes to quality.
Although a market targeted towards kid could exist, Smith considers it to be limited.
Amazon has yet to comment about the news. Meanwhile, a tablet that cheap could generate supporters who like to buy things on an impulse as they need not worry so much about the device breaking.
