'Young Sheldon' updates: Upcoming spin-off and 'The Big Bang Theory' to have 'tonal difference'

The popular American television sitcom, "The Big Bang Theory," is going to have a spinoff featuring one of its most famous characters, Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons). The new television series will be called the "Young Sheldon." Prior to its release, actress Zoe Perry, who will play Mary Cooper, Sheldon's mother, in the spinoff, talks about her role as well as what to expect in "Young Sheldon."

Coincidentally, Perry's mother in real life, Laurie Metcalf, portrays the role of Mary Cooper in "The Big Bang Theory." In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Perry first talked about how the audition went. She said that it was a "typical" audition process "except that there was this other crazy layer to it."

She shared that although there are instances when she felt intimidated, there was also an element of excitement. Perry also revealed that both her parents inspired her especially when her acting reminded her of her parents' styles.

As for the upcoming spinoff, Perry revealed that there will be "tonal difference" between "The Big Bang Theory" and "Young Sheldon."

"'Big Bang' is a multi, and now this one is a single camera. It'll be really interesting for audiences to see where they're similar and how they diverge. I think audiences are going to be really, really surprised and excited about it," Perry explained in the interview.

Nonetheless, there will still be similarities between "Young Sheldon" and "The Big Bang Theory," according to Cinema Blend. The entertainment portal believes that being on a single camera will include long-form jokes that may require the audience to have at least a knowledge of the characters from its previous show.

At the moment, no release date has been announced for the premiere of "Young Sheldon. However, it is expected to air sometime during the 2017 to 2018 season on CBS. The spinoff will focus on the life of nine-year-old Sheldon living with his family in East Texas and going to high school.
