Xbox One backwards compatibility games list: 'Dark Souls' becomes Xbox One-compatible ahead of 'Dark Souls III' global launch

Previously, it is said that since the original "Dark Souls" is being bundled as a pre-order bonus for "Dark Souls III," it will be released as a backwards-compatible game around the same time as the roll out period of the upcoming series installment. However, Microsoft surprised fans by adding "Dark Souls" to the Xbox One backwards compatible games list much earlier than expected.

The games list has now been updated and reflects the original series title from FromSoftware and Hidetaka Miyazaki. The release is much earlier than fans expected. Although it has already been confirmed previously that "Dark Souls" will join other classics as Xbox One-compatible, fans expected the game to roll out to the current-gen console at around the same time as the global release of "Dark Souls III," the current installment in the series.

While "Dark Souls III" has already been released in Japan on March 24, the global version will not roll out until early next month, with a scheduled release date of April 12.

Meanwhile, although "Dark Souls" is already out as an Xbox One-compatible game, the title is still part of the pre-order bundle for "Dark Souls III." Hardcore fans who have placed pre-orders for the upcoming game will automatically unlock "Dark Souls" in their Xbox One games library for free.

However, as the classic game "Dark Souls" is already out as a backwards-compatible game for the Xbox One, observers lost no time at all in trying out the title. Industry followers like Polygon already went out and gathered first impressions on the ported version. According to the observer, some of the reviews stated that although the Xbox 360 classic is being played on a much higher-specs console like the Xbox One, "Dark Souls" still has its share of framerate dips and inconsistent display adjustments in gamma and brightness.
